We had a deep-dive into the world of BACnet/SC (BACnet Secure Connect) - the future of the buildings. As you know BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) is an addendum to the BACnet protocol released by the ASHRAE BACnet Committee. It is a secure, encrypted communication datalink layer that is specifically designed to meet the requirements, policies, and constraints of minimally managed to professionally managed IP infrastructures.

But how does it work in real life? During the meeting, we showed how BACnet/SC will be used in projects based on guidance in the Manufacturers' Guide to BAS Cybersecurity. The guide was created by a BAS industry collaboration to ensure the manageability of secure and interoperable BACnet systems. We saw how a BACnet/SC device is securely onboarded, how they are provisioned with necessary certificates, how the device can be monitored and managed through its lifetime. There was also a demonstration of BACnet International's new BACCARI tool.

All the questions about BACnet and BACnet/SC were answered by ASHRAE fellow Jim Butler who participated in the creation of BACnet/SC.

You can learn more about BACnet/SC on BACnet International site. Signup for the free BACnet Insitute  here for the wealth of resources on BACnet. Watch the video on utilizing BACnet/SC in Smart Buildings from AHR Expo education session here. Catch up with videos from our previous meetings BACnet/SC - secure alternative to BACnet

As usual, the meeting i sponsored by BACnet International - free food and cash bar. BACnet International facilitates the successful use of the BACnet protocol in North America and worldwide, with education (The BACnet Institute), product testing and certification (BACnet Testing Laboratories), and promotional activities.

The purpose of the BACnet User Group is to bring together the local BACnet user community on a quarterly basis to share tips and techniques, pains and joys, regarding the use of the BACnet products and technologies. The user group features BACnet experts from Cimetrics, Siemens and Schneider Electric.

These meetings are especially useful for the end users who have BACnet systems - facility managers, building managers. You can get a free knowledge on BACnet to help you better manage the systems.

Always looking for the presenters for our next meeting. If you are interested please express interest on the forum or contact us.
